Vinifera Wine Bar & Bistro will be celebrating 'Virginia Wine Month' for the entire month of October with a half-priced wine flights special designed to showcase the best of Virginia wine. Two new flights featuring three white or red Virginia wine varietals will be priced starting at $$12.00.

The restaurant's staff will be available to help guests pair their chosen Virginia wine flight with dishes from the seasonal, local and sustainable menu. Guests can also choose from the restaurant's wine list, which features over 300 local, domestic and international wines by the bottle and more than 30 wines available by the glass and half glass.

Vinifera Wine Bar & Bistro is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hours of operations are: 6:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. (breakfast), 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (lunch), 5:00 p.m. - 10 p.m. (dinner). The restaurant is located in the Westin Reston Heights at 11750 Sunrise Valley Drive, Reston, VA 20191. Dress is casual chic. The Art of Wine Education Series

Join General Manager, Mark Parsons and guests to discover, taste and experience wine as art.  Sessions are held on Tuesdays from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m.  Each session is priced individually but multiple sessions may receive a series discount.

1^st series:  $$45 per class or $$150 for 4 classes

September

            16^th – Wine 101, An Introduction – The basis of a general understanding of wine as an art form and the simple enjoyment of sharing it with friends.  An overview of viticulture and viniculture provide participants with a more clear view of how wine grows, is made and can be enjoyed.  Interactive, participative…a tasting of four CrossKeys wines included. 

            23rd – Wine 102, Wines of the World – An exploration of the fine, wine-producing regions of the world.  Participants will gain insight into the terroir, style, history and culture of wines from France, Italy, Spain, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and Argentina. A tasting of eight (8) wines is included.

            30th – Wines of Virginia – As the 6^th largest producer of wine in the United States, Virginia is positioned to become a world-class contender and wine leader.  Taste and compare some of the vintages from CrossKeys Vineyards, Jefferson Vineyards, Keswick Vineyards, Williamsburg Winery, King Family Vineyards, Veritas Vineyards, Linden Vineyards, and Barboursville Estate.  Gain insight into the wonderful world of Virginia Wine.

            7^th – Wine & the Arts – “Wine is bottled poetry.” Robert Louis Stevenson Come and experience the beauty of wine as represented in the arts.  An in-depth lecture will lead the participants on a cultural journey to ‘un-mask’ the muse of the grape.  A tasting of one CrossKeys vintage and two, creative ‘artsy’ wines from California will round out this experience.

Tarara Winery has teamed up with River & Trail Outfitters to offer their customers a unique experience on a private paddle and wine tour. River & Trail Outfitters guides will meet you at the winery and guide you on a 4.5 to 7 mile canoe paddle (kayaks can also be used)on the Potomac or Shenandoah river. This gentle stretch is rich in natural beauty and is perfect for novice and intermediates. Finish your trip back at the winery where you will experience a private tasting of Tarara's award winning wines paired with cheeses, a glass of your favorite wine, and a private tour of the wine making cave.  Recommended for ages 16 and older (no wine will be served to anyone under 21).  Need 15 people minimum to make the trip.

A day to celebrate the harvest at Philip Carter Winery, harkening back to old world ties and in honor of the days of Charles Carter, ancestor to the current owner, Philip Strother.  Charles Carter planted 1,800 vines in the colonies and in 1762 won a gold medal for his accomplishment in fine wine production from the London Society for the Encouragement for the Arts.  A family day (pets included) with falconry demonstration, pony rides, horse crawn carriage rides, food, premium wines and live music all afternoon.
